What's the story behind your derby name?

I originally wanted a name from one of my favorite pop culture phenomenons, Battlestar Galactica. When that name was taken, my partner suggested looking more into past pop culture favorites. Since all the good Back to the Future names were taken, I went to the next best 80's movie, Ghostbusters. Peter Venkman is probably the best character in the movie. He's sarcastic, but loveable. I've been told I embody those qualities as well.

What's your favorite thing about roller derby?

I love roller derby because it's a real sport, and yet most of the girl playing aren't the typical jock-types. It's really easy for me to bond with other girls who are a little punk, a little nerd, and also, somehow, magically athletic. Additionally, I moved across the country and everything seemed a little off, joining the Divas really centered me. Roller Derby is my constant.

How did you get started playing roller derby?

A friend of mine played in Charlotte, and I had always enjoyed skating, it sounded fun! However, I never thought I had the time or the skill, but one day, while still living in Portland I googled it. I found out the Rose City Rollers had a Wreck League. My friend Shaolin Spocker and I talked about joining for months and months and we finally chose a date. After skating with Wreckers like, once, we decided we would make time, and we would get the skills. Neither of us has looked back yet.
